WILLIAM REDGRAVE
(1903-86)

Sculptor William Redgrave's major achievement The Event was in the Momart warehouse fire. It is a bronze triptych approx 5' x 12' with 49 tableaux of 228 figures. One of the side panels is completely destroyed. So far 30 individual figures have been retrieved in good shape by his son Chris Redgrave from the other panels.

Above left: one of the heads rescued after the fire. It has been discoloured from bronze to terracotta but is in good shape. Glass has melted into the left eye. It is from a tableaux titled Gang Murder: Inclement Weather.
