STATEMENTS FROM AND INFORMATION ABOUT STUCKIST ARTISTS

Bill Lewis was born in Maidstone, Kent in 1953. His father was a sheepless shepherd. Bill studied art at Medway College, where he met Billy Childish. In 1979 he met up with Charles Thomson. All of them, with Sexon Ming, Miriam Carney and Rob Earl formed The Medway Poets group, which, as it happens, turned out to be the foundation of the Stuckist movement.

Bill gave up working visually for fifteen years, but in 1997 started producing prints and paintings again, often working through the night with his customary intensity.
